The rubber gives you a secure, non-slip hold with gentle clamping, so you can grab a feather without crushing fibers. The ergonomic, comfortable grip helps reduce hand fatigue when you’re wrapping a lot of hackle.

What to tie with it

Use them for handling hackle feathers at the vise, especially when you need to hold the tip or stem while you wrap tight, even turns. They’re also handy for holding delicate materials while you position or wrap them, and the rubber sleeves help protect hackle fibers as you work. If you’re building a neat, upright dry-fly hackle collar or palmering hackle through a body, this is the kind of tool you keep clipped on the bench.

Flies and the fish they're for

These pliers show up any time you’re tying classic dry flies that depend on clean hackle work, including patterns with hackle-tip wings and flies with upright hackle collars. Those are trout flies first and foremost, fished on rivers and spring creeks where a tidy hackle wrap helps the fly float and track correctly in current. They’re just as useful on bigger patterns anytime you’re wrapping feathers and want a steady grip that won’t slip mid-wrap.

How it compares

Compared with standard hackle pliers, the rubber-sleeved jaws slip less and are less likely to damage hackle fibers while clamping.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0639/6323/4516/files/T8325_4a5d8341-bdef-4a0a-987d-d141a6da9a66.jpg?v=1782969714
