hareline-ep-fibers
Hareline EP Fibers

What it is

Hareline EP Fibers are synthetic tying fibers you stack, blend, and trim into shape. In the water they stay translucent with lively movement, and they hold a clean profile without soaking up water, which helps the fly stay easier to cast. They’re durable and straightforward to work with at the vise.

What to tie with it

Use EP Fibers for baitfish bodies and wings where you want a sculpted head-and-shoulders shape that keeps its form after trimming. They also work well for shrimp and crab patterns where you build a tapered body, then trim to a broad, flattened silhouette or a more compact crustacean shape. Most tyers tie them in sparse layers, then shape the fly by trimming to the profile they want.

Flies and the fish they're for

EP Fibers are a staple in patterns like the EP Baitfish, a go-to for saltwater predators like striped bass, redfish, and seatrout, and for freshwater species like largemouth and smallmouth that hunt minnows. For flats and nearshore situations, the EP Ghost Shrimp is a natural fit for bonefish and permit, and it also crosses over to redfish feeding shallow. When fish are keyed on crustaceans, the EP Crab is commonly fished for permit and other crab-eaters in skinny water.

How it compares

Compared to Yak Hair, Super Hair, and SF Fibers, EP Fibers are noted for having more breathability and motion in the water. Movement-wise, they land between marabou and bucktail, giving you more action than bucktail without being as loose and collapsible as marabou.

Lt.
