It’s chemically sharpened and has a small barb, giving you a long, clean platform when you need a slimmer profile.

What to tie with it

Use it when you want extra shank length for longer-bodied streamers, whether you’re palmering a hackle, wrapping chenille, or stacking materials to build an extended silhouette. It also crosses over well to stonefly nymphs and other big, buggy patterns where the extra length helps form a longer abdomen and gives you room for legs, rubber, or a fuller thorax.

Flies and the fish they're for

Woolly Buggers are a natural fit on this hook when you want a longer, leaner version for trout in rivers and lakes, and they also get used for smallmouth in moving water. A Mickey Finn tied long and slim is a classic baitfish streamer for trout and landlocked salmon, and it’s a common pick for river fishing. Girdle Bugs on a long-shank like this are a staple big nymph/bug pattern for trout in faster water, especially when you’re trying to suggest a stonefly or large aquatic insect.

How it compares

This is positioned as a classic-style streamer hook rather than a “modern pattern and technology” style hook. If you’re after traditional proportions and a straightforward long-shank streamer platform, it fits that lane.

https://checkout.tailwatersflyfishing.com/products/hareline-ahrex-ns118-nordic-salt-classic-streamer-hook
