It’s built to keep small flies separated so you’re not digging through a pile, and it works just as well on the tying desk as it does in a pack or boat.

What to tie with it

This isn’t a tying material, but it’s part of the tying workflow: use it to stage and sort flies as you crank out batches, keeping a couple compartments for each style and size. The divided layout is made for storing midge patterns and also for carrying dry flies loose in a compartment so hackle doesn’t get crushed. It’s also a clean way to package up a set of flies as a gift to a fishing buddy.

Flies and the fish they're for

This box is aimed at midge and small dry-fly storage, which lines up with trout fishing where tiny midges and mayfly-style dries are everyday flies on tailwaters, spring creeks, and stillwaters. It’s also handy any time you’re carrying delicate dry flies for trout that you don’t want jammed into foam or pressed against a lid. If you’re building a “small bugs” selection for trout, this keeps the patterns organized and quick to grab on the water.

How it compares

Hareline’s 12 Compartment Box and 21 Compartment Box offer larger capacity than the 6-compartment version, which can matter if you want more separation by size or you carry a deeper inventory. The 6 Compartment box is the smaller, simpler option when you want a tight, midge-focused layout.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0639/6323/4516/files/BOX3_4a942219-f43b-4c9f-a2fd-eea984674094.jpg?v=1782966753
